Got Peace? God's Peace? - Psalm 23

Psalm 23
The LORD Is My Shepherd

-thing I love about this psalm, it's NOT about the perfect world situation where there is no lack, no pain, no heartbreak

- David "got" it - ("I am my Beloved's and He is mine..." )

- It's about the fact that the God that created the stars in the sky and the earth wants to be our friend, our FATHER, our Love and our Lord.

"The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want." says it best. "I'm not wanting for anything, because I am perfectly content to be in relationship with the Living God of Love. Storms may tear around me, the hills themselves may crumble and fall, but I am not afraid, because GOD - the love of my life - is my Shepherd. I'm trusting in Him, resting in Him, perfectly content to be in His presence, no matter the struggles of the day, nor the pains of childbirth, nor even death - I am at peace. Grateful that "all is well" because I am in my Loving (kind, patient, passionate enough about us to send His only Son to die for us...THAT kind of love) Father's arms.... So, take time to read this out loud, dearly loved of God.
- If you have time - read it slowly, quietly out loud seven times (something I do when I am in dire need of God's peace in my life.)

A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

God's peace to you this day, beloved child of God.

ACTION REQUIRED!

ACTION REQUIRED!

www.simplypsalms.com/subscription.html

Two scriptures come to mind as I write this blog:

The first is Christ's word about knowing truth - often misquoted by the world and Christians alike. Jesus Christ NEVER said, "The Truth shall set you free." No, He did not.

One day I told my daughter, now five, upon her request for candy that IF she finished all her dinner, (THEN) she could have a piece of candy. My five year old can understand the concept that many adults somehow miss: the "IF" means there is a condition. I've seen and heard many people - and yes, I've done it myself - who walk around quoting "the truth shall set us free!" - who have no concept of the Truth, for THIS is what Christ said:

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "IF you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:31-32

We need to abide in His Word. We need to have a faith that has actions. People tend to say whatever gets them an easy out. God's not looking for that. He's looking for people who REALLY believe what He says. When you REALLY believe something, your actions will show it.

I tend to be a bit double-minded about the whole organic food thing. One week I'm thinking: yeah, we need to be eating this stuff. The next week we have four nights out late and do McD's each time..... I don't REALLY believe I'm going to live a much lower quality life; I mean, I might, I don't really know... but though I'd RATHER be eating organic stuff, it's expensive and really it's just a matter of who I've listened that week - cousin Kris, my friend Maria (both natural food experts and amazing moms) - or do I listen to the usual chit chat in my head - "I'm hungry; what's quick, cheap and easy? yumm... those greasy fries smell good; just say we're having meat, potatoes and dairy tonight (burger, fries and a shake....)"

Uh-huh..... but that kind of thinking doesn't work with God. When He says, "Build a boat; it's gonna rain..." He's not looking for someone to piddle paddle about it. Can you imagine? If in the 99th year (I believe it took Noah 100 years to build the boat - someone correct me if that's wrong:)) - Noah, thought - "Shoot! These people are right. I must have been hearing things those 99 years ago. Maybe that wasn't REALLY God's Voice. I'm tired. Think I'll....." - Quit? Nope.

...and, sorry, I'm not quitting either. I'm going to DO what He told me to do; whether you choose to go with me or not.... But honestly, I'm REALLY hoping some of you will go with me in this dream....

(Check out www.simplypsalms.com/subscription/html.)

Some have gone forward with us and brought tremendous blessing - and for those people we are so grateful. Some have joined us through prayer and that is SO important - thank you! But I really want to go forward, which means at least 50 people to start need to join this passion and dream of "Infusing God's Word into our Daily Lives" with their ACTIONS and yes (dare I say it?!) money. I guess if the Apostle Paul can plead for finances, it's not a sin.

But let's get it balance, would we, please? I've got to do right with the stuff (that green stuff...) and YOU have got to believe God's going to bless your giving. If you don't, then don't give, by all means, for "God loves a cheerful giver." (I believe this scripture was meant to spur us on to give, not give an excuse for not giving, but just my thoughts....)

I've never once regretted giving to God; I never have given to any man or woman; I give to God. Jesus said to give to the one who asks of you... People tell me continually how tired they are of preachings being greedy, labeling "prosperity preachers" with a negative label now. Too bad. If you live in America, you are richer than three quarters of the world. If you judge them for being too rich, surely that is how you (and I) should be judged? I just read somewhere that one tank of gas in my SUV can feed a third world child for a year. I have got a problem with that, BUT there's a balance that some don't like. They wouldv'e had a problem with Christ on the day He said to the Syrian woman, "It's not right to take from the children's food (the Jews) and give it to the dogs." She was asking for healing for her child. Most today in arrogance in pride (if you know more than God, you're proud - and wrong) would have huffed and puffed and called the media and called him a racist. But not this lady, she figured if Jesus called her a dog then that was her status (boy, I'm rufflin' feathers now, I can feel it! No, Christ wasn't "just testing her" - that's not scriptural; God and Christ says what He means and means what He says; it isn't Christ or God that lies, it's us.) This lady wasn't about to argue with the Guy doing the miracles. She said, "yes, Lord but even the dogs lick the scraps from their masters tables...." Christ was amazed at her FAITH ("faith works by love" y'know:)")
- and she got her miracle. Her child was healed and delivered from that moment on.

I sure hope people listen up and HEAR what God's Spirit is speaking to the churches. If it is wrong for a preacher to have a cadillac (so I've heard), then it is a sin for you to have a car, because your standard of living is far higher than most of the world's - there's a far greater distance there in standard than between the cadillac and the Ford; the point is - don't judge the preacher for something God doesn't say is wrong!!!! If the preacher's not preachin' the truth in love, and you can prove it through SCRIPTURE; pray for him or her. Pray God open his or her eyes, because those who teach will be judged more severely. Just don't spend so much time working on their splinters that you (hmmmm, or I:)) miss the log in our own eyes....? Right?

So, pray and talk to God; know Him - and if you've got the time, check out this cool thing He's blessed us with.. www.simplypsalms.com/subscription.html .

Now the frustrating thing is there is this non-Biblical theory going around that actually stems from some truth - it starts with the concept that you can't order God around, which is true and anyone with a lick of sense will understand the fear of the Lord. "The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom!" (Proverbs 1, I think - sorry, you'll have to look it up yourself;)) You can't walk in arrogance and pride and grow in God BUT on the reverse this arguement is being used to shove and push down children of God who sincerely love Him and want to grow into ALL HE has called them to be.... The talk goes like this: "Well, it didn't happen, so it wasn't God's will." ..... Um, sorry, but there's a LOT going on here in this world that ISN'T happening - that GOD WANTS to happen! The Bible clearly says, "God is not willing that any should perish." - If something doesn't happen like you believed (God) it would - you need to check the Book (anything un-Biblical about what you're doing? NEVER can we FORCE OUR WILLS on another human being!!!! I actually just heard a pastor this past week say, "I prayed to God that He would give me power over your (the congregation's) spirits!" I prayed protection on those people, because once you try to use God's power for self-will you've entered into witchcraft and need to repent.

I am PLEADING with people to choose to join the Simply Psalms Dream Team. I REALLY REALLY want to move this to the next step - which is recording more music for God, yes, for GOD. BUT no way am I called or permitted in scripture to TELL you that you HAVE to do this - or that God will curse or bless you based on what I want. God's gonna bless you because you love him, you fear Him and you believe in His Son; He will bless you as you grow in knowledge and grace and love. HE will bless you - so don't ever think you need a preacher to do it for you! If you've got a preachin' idol, toss it down and let it die!!!!! Pleeeeassse....

If no one responds to my plea, I go back to God; I check again; am I sinning? Did I miss it? Am I to go forward? If I mess up and acknowledge and repent, He'll direct me back into the path I'm supposed to be in (He's that kind of a God:) - quite loving - His mercies are new every morning. EVERY MORNING!!!!! Do we get this folks? Ok, imagine your credit card company forgiving your debts every morning when you sincerely said you were sorry for spending so much (no game playing here) - now multiply that by one billion and you get an INKLING of what God has done for us!!!!

hmmm...got preachy:) - still love me?:) If you made it this far, you deserve an award: e-mail me for a f r e e CD for the first 10 people to respond and a f r e e download for the rest of you!:)

God is amazing. What we have witnessed in the past two years with Simply Psalms Ministries is more than I could have imagined - changed lives; hearts touched - God is using this ministry to move people closer to Him.

Ever wonder what made little David different from his brothers? Why, when hundreds of thousands of soldiers were shaking in their boots did this "kid" think he could take on the giant? His brothers accused him of being arrogant and proud.... but he wasn't - he was full of the faith that comes from only one place - living and dwelling in the presense of God. He worshipped God day and night; he praised God and READ GOD'S WORD when others were .....well, who knows, but they didn't write a bunch of Psalms.... David saw God move with him when his passion and love caused him to take on the giant - and the bear. When you go where God goes; God goes with you. When your HEART says - "Lord, you are my all in all; nothing I desire compares with you." Then know that God goes with you; He is Immanuel "God with us."

I know God is with us; I have no questions that we are walking in His love, though we may make mistakes along the way. I KNOW it is God's will for this dream to flourish - but people for some reason find it hard to die (I'm talking McD's cash here, maybe even coffee money!) so others can live. Perhaps they don't realize Who is with them. When someone asks me for money - if I have it, I usually give it. I can't give what I don't have; I don't give what's my family's or church's - but I give if I have it to give, because I know when I obey Christ's command to "Give to the one who asks." I'm obeying His command. I'm ABIDING in His Word, not just hearing it and doing nothing.

"ACTION REQUIRED"

Today, I've asked a lot. If you don't have it to give; don't worry:). God is with us as He is with you as we love Him and obey His commands. If you DO have the time and the emotional energy (hey! I'm female, after all! I know how vital THAT is, ladies!) - and yes, if you DO have the funds, please give - not to us, 'cause we might let you down! But give to God as He calls you to serve Him, believing He'll return the seed you have sown to you - multiplied back 100 fold; He's just that kind of just, righteous, loving and compassionate God. He's wonderful, isn't He?

I pray each of you reading this be blessed with Christ's love, joy, peace and grace; that you KNOW CHRIST and the greatness of HIS love for you!

God's great power and love never cease to amaze me. He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omni-present (You can't escape this Guy...), all-knowing (I never can spell that "omni" word) - and HE LOVES YOU!!!! Now, if we can grasp this concept and "get it" - it is amazing.

The God who created the universe sent His only Son to die on a cross and be resurrected from the dead, not JUST to get us from hell to heaven (where we would happily have served as slaves) - but to be able to ADOPT US as HIS children!!!!! If you can grasp this concept to it's fullness (it will take an eternity) - there is no more amazing miracle, no greater feat, nothing compares with the fact that you and I can call Him, "Abba" or "Daddy" God.

www.simplypsalms.com

So, our dream is simple: That you and we come to know our Heavenly Father. That we grow daily in the knowledge of His great mercy and agape Love for us (His definition of love is a wee bit different from Webster's, though Webster was close in one def. FYI: God's not talking a tennis term when HE says, "Love!"

We pray we grow daily in His love - whether that be the romance of spring - in love with the Lord of Life and Love... Of if it be in the "summer" - the heat of persecution and hardships for following our "Love" ("God is Love"). Whether it be the season winter - that of death - where there seem to be no buds, no fruit. Yet, for a tree, much growth is taking place deep in the soil where the roots are stretching and growing downward so that the tree might in the spring again grow upward and produce yet more fruit. Perhaps we are in wonderful fall - the season of harvest - when the leaves start to drop, but the produce and fruit is in abundance and there is a time of celebration.

Whatever season you are in - "whether in season or out of season" - we pray you are walking with the Lord Jesus Christ, growing in His Love for you - and becoming a mature son or daughter of your most amazing and wonderful Heavenly Father. The Lord God Almighty who is just, righteous and merciful and who loves you so very much.

To help you grow, in whatever season you're in, we offer you food and a hunger to eat from His Table and to eat of His Word, not once or twice a week, but every moment of your life.

After Moses died, God spoke to Joshua and told him that he would lead the Israelites into the promised land. Hear the instruction God gave the man of God: Joshua 1:8-9 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. "

You've seen those shows where people win whatever they can fill a shopping cart with in five minutes? If you're told, "Get as much as you can..." Just how slow or fast are you going to go?! :)

God told the Israelites, "Every place your foot shall tread I've given to you...." The Lord gives us in Christ Jesus so much more in the New Covenant than was given in the Old. You and I have been entrusted with the message of salvation!!!! We can speak the Word of life to people that will make the difference to them of eternal life and death!!!! People, this is better than MTV, seeking money, and ANYTHING the world has to offer!!!!

Let me give you a mild comparison: Angus Steak dinner verses cow manure.... It's actually more extreme than that, but that's the best I can come up with!!!!

Come on, children of God!!! Let's LOVE God with ALL our hearts, with ALL our minds and with ALL our STRENGTH!!!!! Let's WAKE UP and realize WHAT we've been given!!!! If you have Christ in your heart, then the One of Whom it is written "In Him dwells the God-head bodily" LIVES IN YOU!!!! He lives in me!!!! ALLELUIA!!!! The One who walked on water dwells in your spirit - does He not?! The One who healed the sick and raised the dead - the SHEKINAH (forgive spelling) GLORY OF GOD now has made YOU and I HIS HOLY TEMPLE!!!! Does anybody GET this??????

So what are we waiting for?! Come on, there's a generation of lost souls to bring to Him, turn off the TV, put down (even better, give away;), the game box - let's get a move on, people!!!!

Let's serve God willingly with gladness for He gave us everything!!!

Don't know where to start - start by praising HIM today - YOU AREN'T GONING TO HELL!!! (This is good, ok? Hell's a pretty boring place for an extremely long time.) Let's put off the old ways of sin and the world's way of thinking and begin to meditate on GOD'S WORD DAY AND NIGHT - shoot! If King David thought like most of us - do you SERIOUSLY think he would have taken on the lion, bear - or Goliath? Why was King David different from his brothers? Don't you know?

Think about it: What did he do all day long while watching sheep? Ok, I'm not answering that here. Check it out for yourself, and if you really don't know (if you're a new Christian, please feel free to ask - I'll give you the refs:)) - e-mail me and ask me!!

What made David think he could stand up to a bear or a lion and actually RESCUE the sheep from it's teeth? (Hint: What was he MEDITATING on out there?)

Ok, I'm not giving it away.

The power of God is available to you today. What are you going to do with it?

God's grace, peace, love and JOY to you this day!

The Virtuous Woman - Chapter III - C - "First Things First"

Chapter III. An Amazing Character

Who can find a virtuous* woman? for her price is far above rubies. Prov.31:10
*lit. "wife of valor" (Thomas Nelson KJV note)

Can you see yourself in the mirror of God’s Word? (A mirror reflects who you ARE, not who you need to be...) James 1:22-25 There you are! - and your price is far above rubies.

What characterizes the “wife of valor,” the “virtuous woman”?

C. First Things First
or "Prioritizing in a Multi-Tasking World"

"The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Prov. 31:11-12

It is interesting that this godly woman had her priorities set. The very first statement given about her tells us about her care for her husband. Because of the world we live in that is so evil, I am careful to use different words to describe my husband in public. I most often use "my beloved." At times I've been known to use "my lover." My personal favorite word is "soul-mate," though it's not a scriptural word, but people get the point. Garin Paul Mason and I are forever in Christ. We are united and are one. There are imperfections (more than a few) in both of us, but because Christ is our center link-lock, because HE is our source and our God, those flaws tend to unite and bind us rather than tear us apart. We know our desperate, daily need for a Savior, so we don't rely on each other to fill our emotional, physical, mental or any other needs. Does that make sense? Garin Paul is my love, my beloved. One of the biggest things when we re-met and God bound us together in spirit was how natural all of our relations were. It was as if we had always been together and never been apart.
My life was not horrible prior to my union with Garin, but in comparison with my life today, it was hell. I imagine and glimpse that that is what it will be like when I am no longer in this body, but united at last with my Lord in heaven. No words can express the fullness of being in union in spirit (only through Christ can a couple be united in spirit - if their spirits are dead, not alive in Christ, they can never know the greatest intimate pleasure that can be theirs.) One can not marry because he/she is lonely, because if it is not the right person or the right timing, the loneliness will not go away. One must endure the cross, if you will, and know that once you have died to self (in Christ), there is a glorious resurrection that awaits you. It would seem to me that I had never lived until my beloved came into my life. My girls are my prize and joy, but they are not my fullness or glory. Perhaps the words are wrong: I pray you can grasp what I am trying to say.

Quick Side-Note...
For those who have served Christ, but have gone through the death of losing a husband, in one way or another, know God is the One who sees you. It is written: "For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is His Name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called." and again, "Fear Not; for thou shalt not be ashamed; neither be though confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame; for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more." (Is.54:5, 4) Intimacy with Christ begins in the Word. It is our breath, our food, our life. Loving our brothers and sisters is much of loving Christ. I will always (even if I have to take a few steps backwards and force myself) rejoice when I am given the opportunity to forgive. Do you view your hurts and pains that way? Are you rejoicing that you have the opportunity to witness and live your love for Christ through loving those who have hurt you? It is not an ignoring of pain. No, quite the opposite, for Christ often calls me to deal with the hurt or rejection and pain and to not hide it and ignore it. It is the pain that causes us to want to crawl inside of ourselves and just not have to deal with it, but Christ did not hide from our pain - or His on the cross. So we can run to Him for the strength to open up our hearts, give Him our sorrows and pains (Isaiah 53) and choose for love of Him to forgive and love the ones that have hurt us.
(End side-note...)

Where's Your Focus?

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Joshua 1:8

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where you treasure is, there will you heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despises the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Matt. 6:19-24
(It's worth reading the rest of that chapter, when you have time.)

So often what we think upon and focus on causes our mood and actions. Most of the time I'm thinking of what cleaning needs to be done. It's where I focus easiest. In light of the scriptures here, one thought was to change my thinking to "How can I best serve and love my husband?" I realize most of you won't have this problem, but I'm so focused on getting tasks completely finished before starting another, I have trouble starting a more important task (such as cooking) before accomplishing the first. My husband is very loving and patient and will often come home, or wake up, and cook something for everyone to eat, because he knows it's difficult for me to break away from the task at hand. No one will ever starve, but they will get a piece of cheese and ham handed to them if I'm not ready to cook! That's because my focus is on cleaning. Little by little I'm learning refine the focus so that my husband's needs (ie: food) comes before my drive to have a clean kitchen before using the stove.

Now, there's a balance here, too. Three years ago, after having Hannah Rose, I prayed about the changes that all my loving family and friends said would need to be made in my thinking. God is going to provide YOU with what YOU need. Don't stick yourself in my box - or anyone else's. I have toned down a lot, but God puts the drive in me to focus, detail and fight (the cleaning, in this situation) through to the finish for a reason, because in the spirit realm, this is necessary for my survival and call. In the music I must be as precise as a surgeon with a scalpel if I'm am to accomplish what God desires. So it is for me in all I do, so God blesses me with a loving family to provide where I am lacking - and in that is balance. BUT, little by little, I still need to change my thinking to "How can I do my beloved good, not harm today?" So maybe, getting the cooking AND the cleaning done before sitting down to type at the computer.....

* * * * * *
I'm going to break a few rules here and copy an article from the December 2006 issue of Decision. It meant a lot to me, but at the moment I thought about copying it for you, I realized it was right at my feet. So here it is. Keep in mind the topic still is our focus - is hubby at the top of the list? (Yes, I'm talking to myself here - and I am so blessed!) Or is he somewhere after the dishes, the kids, the cats - and did I take out the trash? Ouch. Hmmm... I love when God has me write to you for the purpose of getting through to me....

"Feeling Trapped?"
The man, asleep in the trash bin, was awakened with a jolt. He had been scooped up with the trash by a 21-ton garbage truck. Knocked unconscious, he came to --upside-down and squeezed into an area where a human being shouldn't fit.

The truck started again and picked up two more loads of trash. When the driver stopped for a third load, he heard some hollering. Getting out, he looked around. The voice sounded far away, and he could see no one. S he started the compactor. That's when he heard a banging inside the truck. Thinking something mechanical was wrong, he stopped the cylinders.

Then, he later reported, he "heard a voice saying he sure would like to get out of wherever he was." Fortunately the driver saw to it that the man was freed.

That is the way I have felt at times: to much to do, to far to go, and not enough time or strength to do it all, so that I "sure would like to get out of wherever I am."

Someone has said, "God does not promise strength for uncommanded work." Perhaps you're attempting things He hasn't commanded. When I began to fee compacted and cried for help, God showed me how my priorities had gotten distorted. He was to come first. Then I realized that I needed to be liberated from wherever I was. I needed to get off of boards and committees, write no more books or articles for the time being and accept few outside responsibilities. This was God's answer for me. He has a solution for you as well.

What can I change today to be more of a godly wife and woman to my husband? A hard thing for me to do, so I pray today for God’s help, is to let go of my concept that I “can’t play until the work is done.” I am going to finish this article and post it where it belongs and that’s it. I won’t check another e-mail or account, or clean another thing. (Ok, now I’ve said it. I have to follow through.) I’m going to enjoy some “mommy-daddy” time with my beloved.

God’s love, grace and peace to you.

The Virtuous Woman - Chapter III - B

Chapter III. An Amazing Character

Who can find a virtuous* woman? for her price is far above rubies. Prov.31:10
*lit. "wife of valor" (Thomas Nelson KJV note)

Can you see yourself in the mirror of God’s Word? (A mirror reflects who you ARE, not who you need to be...) James 1:22-25 There you are! - and your price is far above rubies.

What characterizes the “wife of valor,” the “virtuous woman”?

B. The Love that Never Fails (God’s kind of love)

"The heart of her husband doth safely truth in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Prov. 31:11-12

God's Love never fails. When you know something is God's will, don’t quit or give up for anything or anyone. Never regret loving God or people; give the pain and hurt to Christ, who bore it on the cross for you, and decide, stubbornly, I WILL love!

Charity (Love) never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail (cease); whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, that that which is in part shall be done away....For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love.) 1 Cor. 13:8-10,12-13

Hear the words Ruth spoke to her mother-in-law, Naomi: "And Ruth said, 'Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.'"

What is that “stuff” inside the dog that makes a pit bull not let go, no matter what? That I don’t know, but Ruth had a bit of that. She was immovable and unchanging in her determination. (Anyone out there with some better words for this, help me!) You get the picture of this "woman of valor" that she is not wishy washy. She's a rock. "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil." Prov. 31:11

I've often heard non-Christians or even Christians question the garden of Eden and the fall. Why doesn't God just fix everything? Because God's not going to change for us, we have to change for God. It puzzles me that people don't get this, but they don't get God's character. There are things that God can NOT do. Yep, you heard me right. No, it's not blasphemy, it's scripture.* We live in a wishy washy world where people think that they can make their own spiritual rules, but we can no more make our own spiritual rules than we can change the law of gravity. Can you fly? Of course, God's not trying to limit you, but you're not going to do it in some make-believe Harry Potter fantasy kind of way. You have to do it by learning the laws of gravity and working with them.

Ruth was not double-minded. She wasn't going to be dissuaded, no matter what. Here is an area I'm very weak in. I have recently come to the conclusion I need to spend more time thinking before I speak, and then once I've said something, come hell or high water, I need to follow through, even if it hurts. Why? Because God is unchanging.

Examples of Holding Fast in Prayer - Take Time to Pray!

Likewise, when you pray you can’t keep changing your mind. Pray it and then believe God’s sending it, even if it comes on the rapture plane. Believe God not only hears you but gives what you ask, of course, you won’t ask with confidence if you’re not walking in the Word and in Love, so check your love walk first. I totally believe God’s going to answer some of the crazy prayers I’ve prayed, however, he’ll not give me a car until I learn how to drive. Neither will he give me a million dollars until I’ve learned to manage a hundred. So I don’t ever worry about the “IF” my prayer is answered, and answered “yes,” I only have to work on my patience at times for the “when.” Practice in prayer makes perfect.

Some words Christ shared regarding prayer are in Luke 18:1-8 (about the widow who wouldn't give up - too long to re-type! Take a look at it when you have the chance.) Also, He gave some very clear instructions in Mark: "Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any; that your Father also which is in heaven my forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." Mark 11:22-26 (Some people can not receive from God all He desires to bless them with, because they refuse to enjoy His presence and delight to forgive those who have hurt them. Do not excuse yourself here. We murdered Christ, yet He chose willingly to die and forgive our sins. We should be grateful for every opportunity to love and forgive others, especially those in the body. This is part of Christ's command to "Love one another." Difficult? Often, yes. Impossible? Not with the Son of God inside of you.)

(Need some joy?)

"My brethren, count it all JOY when ye fall into divers temptations (various trials); (needless to say, we all have much opportunity, according to this scripture, for JOY!) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." James 1:2-8

The Book of Daniel tells us there’s more to heaven’s goings ons (forgive the grammar) than meets the eye. Daniel’s prayer was answered the day he prayed, but he didn’t receive the answer until twenty one days later. (Dan. 10:12-13) (Interesting sidenote: that was exactly how long he was fasting. Read Daniel chapter 10, if you get the chance.) Why was Daniel's prayer on hold? Because it was the wrong request? Or he lacked faith? No, but because apparently there was a bit of a battle going on in the heavenlies and the angel couldn’t make it through until Michael, "one of the chief princes," backed him up. But you will only get what you stand and believe for, because when you change your words, you’re now asking for something new and refusing the gift that was on it’s way. Some promises take awhile. God told me to start praying for my husband at age 14 or so, so I did. I didn’t receive the promise until I was thirty, but sister, I’m darned glad I believed and held fast! My beloved is “exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond all I could ask or imagine!” (And in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been blessed with one pretty good imagination!)

Now, don’t get me wrong, this walk is not some greedy grab and go walk, it’s a two way street. Your "all" now belongs to God, so when your brother or sister needs something, it’s just like it’s God asking you for it. If the Lord sends a gift, give your tithe first to your church in obedience to God’s Word - don’t worry, He doesn’t mind that it’s not in the New Testament specifically, it just goes under the Law of Love. Then give to those who you know need it and are worse off than you. Lastly, don’t miss this, EXPECT God to meet your needs as you’re in obedience to Him. He’s promised to. Isn’t He your Shepherd? "The Lord IS my Shepherd. I shall NOT want." See the money in the bank isn’t what counts, it’s the faith in the Heavenly Father and His grace that’s providing for you NOT your paycheck - unless of course you’re not letting go of the paycheck. If it’s not enough to pay the bills, give double until it is. Please - don’t get mad at me! God’s Word works. For years God commanded me to give all my paycheck. Yep, all. Most people will say, “That’s not God.” However, I never lacked (except the one time I thought I didn’t have to work and could just trust God, boy did I get over that disobedience quick! hunger’s a good way to obedience! and hotdogs don’t taste good after the third week.)

Can you die for Him? Are you willing to Live for Him? It's good to surrender all to Him, all your fears, all your strengths, all your friends and family; all your weaknesses. Give Him your job (or lack of a job...), let go of all things and grab ahold of Christ Jesus. In the place where HE alone is your Lord and in charge of all of your life, you can be assured you will find blessing - peace, and yes, prosperity in the knowing of Him. He's awesome! and He loves you very, very much. (Who else do you know who's gone through hell (literally), torture, shame and worse still, separation from the Father - for you?)

So (getting back to the Proverbs point) this Proverbs chick was not wishy washy and neither was Ruth, or Sarah, or Hannah, or Deborah....

For years I wondered what Christ meant in the Book of Revelation, when He said, "I would that you were hot or cold, but because you are lukewarm, I am about to spit you out of my mouth (lit translation: throw you up)." However, I'm beginning to grasp His meaning. God can do nothing with someone who doesn't care enough to get angry over evil. The apostle Paul called himself, "The worst of sinners." He stood by and approved the death of many Christians. Yet God was able to use this man. Saul had strength of character. He called wrong, wrong and right, right and hated what he considered was wrong - Saul (Paul) just happened to have it all backwards until Christ appeared to him. But He feared God and after his conversion, Paul was used mightily of God.

So, like the prophets and heroes of old in the Bible, may we be on-fire Christians, immovable in our faith and steadfast in our patience and love. May we walk like this Proverbs gal who did her hubby "good not evil all the days of her life." (That's steadfast! Most of us could probably find a day or two where we did just a smidgeon of evil;). But in Christ we can say we are "forgetting those things that are behind us." We become more like Christ day by day, growing into His love and basking in His grace and mercy, so one day OUR children WILL (believe it, ladies, even if today it seems impossible!) "rise up and call (us) blessed!" Because the Living Word of God, Jesus Christ Himself lives and dwells in us! With God, nothing is impossible. Nothing can separate us from His Love. If the world only knew what they were missing!

So this week, (I know, that was a lot!) let's be steadfast in faith and BELIEVE our Lord and Savior without wavering. Whatever your mountain, talk to God. Ask Him for what you need and desire and EXPECT He's heard you - then don't back down no matter what it looks like. If Christ's words to Martha, "IF you believe...." hold true to raising her brother from the dead, how much more can we believe for the salvation of a loved one, or finances (or food!) or anything else we need! Is your situation seemingly dead and immovable? Don't worry, Christ, your Lord and Savior (who lives inside of you) conquered death and made YOU more than a conqueror! Don't worry about your life - God's taken care of it. Just don't act in fear (the emotion may still be there, just ignore it and act on God's Word.) Pray. Then believe. Then let us know what mountains were moved in your life! For ALL the Glory goes to God!

In His Love, Christa

ps: Always start with knowing that you are a child loved by God. To everything there's a time and a season. Don't think you have to imitate some preacher or even a godly friend to be blessed; Just imitate Christ... {{{HUGS}}}

*What things can't God do? Well, for one, He can't lie. It's not in His character. - Titus 1:2 - He's not going to change being Love for you or me. To obey Him and believe Him, WE will have to agree with Him - not the other way around.

A. Godliness = Simple Faith + Love (God’s kind of love)
First, let's look at the example set by Ruth.
Boaz‘s words: "And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do the thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman." Ruth 3:11
Wow! What an amazing statement made by Boaz! "All the city" knew about Ruth. Have you ever wondered her motives for leaving everything she had ever known and traveling the long, weary distance with her mother-in-law Naomi? Ruth said, "Your God will be my God." I believe one motive was faith. At some point in her walk with Naomi, it would appear that Ruth became a believer.
I believe another motive Ruth had is love - though on this next point I'm grasping, because I'm not knowledgeable in the history of the culture then. I believe she loved her mother-in-law and what chance was there for an older woman with no husband or son to survive? She sure wasn't going to pick up a secretarial job at the local gas company. Ruth worked the fields - hard labor - from morning 'til night to provide enough for her mother-in-law and herself to survive on. Amazing character. Amazing love - which can only come from God. And God not only provided, but rewarded her, according to HIS character. "But without faith it is impossible to please (God): for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that HE IS A REWARDER of them that diligently seek Him." (Heb. 11:6) (So often people grasp the one concept - they believe IN God, but never get close enough to Him to discover His perfect, amazing, loving AND His rewarding character.)

Faith is simple. It means you listen to and believe God. Love is choosing to do what God wants you to do, even though you don't want to. Even though it means dying - to self, to the world, even to family and friends. (Like Abraham when he sacrificed Issac. Faith told him God would raise Isaac from the dead, but NOBODY wants to kill their own child. That took love for God. Abraham LOVED God more than his own son and the world was blessed because of it.)
It is interesting that the Book of Ruth immediately follows the Book of Judges. The Book of Judges was characterized by the statement: "where every man did what was right in his own eyes" (sound like today's society?) Yet here, Ruth stood up, a non-Jew whose strength of character and conviction not only gained her a place among the people of God, but also a name that will never be forgotten. Greater than that was the amazing honor to be in the lineage of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. More immediate to her time was the fact that she is the great-grandmother of King David. What a godly woman she was! (Note: If you are not familiar with the story, take the time to read the Book of Ruth. It is a short, but very interesting, book!)

Secondly, let's view this faith and love in our Proverbs 31 lady.

The Proverbs 31 woman is also one of faith, kindness and love. "She stretcheth out her hands to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy." (vs 20) "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness." (vs.26) And again, "She is not afraid of the snow for her house hold: for all her household are clothed with scarlet." (vs 21) She is confident and we know (because we're reading the Bible!) that she trusts in the Lord with all of her heart and doesn't lean or rely on her own understanding. (Prov. 3:5-6) One key we will spend more time on when we get to that verse, is she is not lazy or idle. "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness." (vs 27) In a generation where it is so very easy to become lazy, it is wise to choose not to throw away the time God has given us. Relaxation has it's place, but if we're not putting a solid 72 hour week in (12 hours x 6 days a week), we're not giving it our best. (Don't laugh, I realize many of you put in more!) We also need to realize how very wealthy we are. Yup. Us. You and me.
Something that really bothered me today was the thought of how very, very, VERY wealthy I am. In the 5000 or so years man's been around how many of the billions of humans on this earth got to pick what design their clothes were going to be from a multitude of clothes. I'm not knowledgeable in this area, but who makes these clothes I wear? If it's made in China or Taiwan, what standard of living do the women have? The ones who are providing such nice things for me to wear. You get the picture. I can guarantee, my grandmother, let alone my great-grandmother, could not have pictured her grandchildren living in such wealth. Of course, things change, so usually I don't think of myself as wealthy. But how many millions of children around the world today don't have enough food to eat or clothes to wear?

As we look at this Proverbs 31 lady, I need to take inventory and decide, can I afford to be kind and generous? Can I afford not to? There is a balance that each of us must find as individuals in this wealthy society we live in. Do we have to pay $100 for an outfit or can we go to ARC (they've got great stuff!!!) and get the same quality outfit for $15? What could I do with the extra cash? (O, let me count the ways!) Until recently I never had money to buy things, but God always provided all I needed. But even when you don't have much by the American standard, how incredibly wealthy we are compared to much of the world's population! We have running water. We have HOT running water. We have electricity, gas, wood, heat, clothes, even telephones and shoes (and socks), the list is endless. Some days I (especially when I'm starting to feel sorry for myself), I need to remind myself of how very blessed I am and pray again that I may be a blessing to others.

As we study the Proverbs 31 Lady, let's remind ourselves of her (and Christ's) example. Let's walk in the faith that works through (God's kind of) love.

I pray this be a blessing to you! In His Love, Christa
Chapter II. The Virtuous Woman - Attainable Goal ?

This section is in response to the surprising number of comments I have received from mature Christians that say, “Well, God didn’t really mean for us to live this. It’s just an ideal, an (unattainable) goal.” This has really frustrated me, because if I believed God’s Word wasn’t specifically and particularly for me, I’d be dead or, more likely, in a mental institution (literally - ask me later.) But I choose to believe God’s Word, and will choose it, even if every loving person in Christendom tells me it’s “just an example. God knows you can’t really live it.” or the other great one, “It was just for his disciples.” Right. Forgive me if I offend them by choosing to be a disciple of Christ. The cost for following Christ was and still is everything.

This is important: That we understand that this Word is to be lived, not just read, but that it is ONLY through Christ born in us and living through us that we can achieve this lifestyle. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Gal. 2:20 So, let's not become discouraged as we see where we are and where we're going (I'm not there, yet!) But neither let us give up and sin against God and say, "I can't do this. I can't live this woman of valor lifestyle." Yes, we can! For God is in us and will help us as we allow HIM to change us. I pray you be blessed. Christa

* * * * *
The title of this series opens a serious question. Does God mean for us to actually, truly live His Word? I can guarantee, today, I do not feel perfect, yet God has said, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Matt. 5:48

If you get a chance, look up the word “perfect” in the Strong’s Concordance. (For starters you could check Gen 17:1; Deut. 18:13; 2 Sam.22:33; and Matt 5:48.) I believe the Lord desires for me to live all of His commands in His Word. (Is that too heavy to bear? But His commands are not burdensome.) I believe the cost of being a disciple of Jesus Christ today is still everything (anyone wanting scriptures on that, e-mail me.) I also believe that when we bring the “modern,” “politically correct” American thinking into our lives, we fall short of the glory of God. Songwriter Rich Mullins said, “...and with these our hells and our heavens so few inches apart, we must be awfully small, and not as smart as we think we are....” But Christ is our all in all.

The point of all the above is simply this: I believe this Proverbs 31 gal is my role-model. She is who I’m growing up to be, because she is part of God’s Word. As I put on Christ and truly eat (live, think, digest, speak) God’s Word, I grow more and more into the image of Christ that He desires me to be. His Word is not impossible for you and I to live. How can we fail, when the Glory of the Almighty God dwells inside of you and me? But, yes, it will cost you something. It will cost you your life. I figured out, my life in exchange for God’s - I am definitely getting the better deal!

Do we really believe these scriptures, or is it just another nice fantasy story? Or do we happily pick and choose which commands God meant for us and which ones He just meant for His disciples? Don’t be discouraged! God loves you. My point isn’t that I or you have arrived there yet, but let’s be sure we’re on our way. Let’s trust God to develop those qualities in us that HE wants in us. And enjoy the sweat of it. We won’t need to sweat in heaven. So I’m glad to love others and serve Him and show Him my love down here. There it will be easy. I’m glad for the special opportunities I get to forgive and love, even if I don’t “feel” like it. (Never act on your feelings; always strive to act on God’s Word.)

I’ve seen God’s hand on a woman born into cocaine addiction and prostitution. After twenty-seven years of living hell, she met Christ. Literally. Instantly she was delivered from fifteen years of drug addiction, with no withdrawal. Why? Why was she chosen out from the rest? If we believe the Word, it is because God chooses the godly for Himself, so maybe we ought to learn what GOD means when HE says “godly.” Do you have in you the courage and strength of spirit to be a child of God? It’s simple faith that a child has when dad says, “Jump.” The boy jumps out the burning building into his dad’s loving arms. But there’s no wavering there. There’s no, “maybe my sin will take me to hell, maybe it won’t.... Maybe my complacency and laziness will cause destruction in my children’s/family’s lives, maybe it won’t.” No, I believe God tells the truth. Don’t fear! God is with you. On one side of the truth the devil says, “You can never walk this walk.” On the other side he yells and accuses the brethren, “See, you’re a failure! You’re lazy! You can never live up to all God’s planned.” On yet another side, he slyly says, “It doesn’t matter if you’re in sexual sin or your a liar, GOD UNDERSTANDS.” Do you see the lies? In the center of the walk of Truth is the Loving Savior with the nail-pierced hands Who says, “Follow Me.”

It's really important that a fire be started in our souls to think, live and breathe God's Word. Because the more we partake of God's Word, the more we see who we are through the mirror of God's Word. The more we see who we are in Christ, the more Christ is seen in us. And, yes, the more Christ is seen in us, the more people will come to believe that He really is who He says He is, because they've seen Him - in us. So as we begin on the study and journey through these few verses, let's expect God's Holy Spirit to move in us and through us. Let's expect our thoughts, minds, words and actions to change into thinking, speaking and doing what God says we should.

I'm really excited about this study. Like I mentioned before, I need this probably more than anyone and I'm really glad you've decided to take this journey with me!

Grace, peace and JOY, JOY, JOY to you today!

In His Love, Christa
